When it was first reported that Vince McMahon would be taking a break from his responsibilities, there were speculations about potential legal issues. However, WWE’s official documents and an internal message to staff made it clear that this isn’t the reason. Instead, McMahon’s absence is a result of a major surgery he recently underwent.

In December, The Wall Street Journal hinted at McMahon’s comeback plans. Then, in January this year, McMahon was named a board director. Amidst all these developments, there were rumors of a hiring freeze at WWE in 2023. However, Nia Jax‘s return has debunked these rumors.

Nia Jax made a surprising comeback to WWE on this week’s WWE RAW. It turns out she’s been part of the roster for over a month now. According to insiders at Fightful Select, WWE had brought Jax back into the fold over a month ago. Notably, Jax’s signing marked the first move since McMahon’s return to a more active role in the company. The 39-year-old wrestler had previously been released by WWE in November 2021. Since then, she hadn’t made any appearances in other wrestling promotions.

Her return on RAW marked her first WWE appearance since her participation in the women’s Royal Rumble match earlier this year. The rumored hiring freeze at WWE, which purportedly began at the beginning of 2023, came to an end with her return. It’s worth noting that her return had nothing to do with the merger between Endeavor and WWE.

After a seven-year-long career, Jax was released in 2021. With her unexpected comeback, fans believe that this has put McMahon back in power again.

Jax’s return is McMahon’s return too

Vince McMahon seems to be on the road to recovery after his spinal surgery earlier this summer. In March, Vince McMahon returned backstage but stayed low-key, emphasizing that Triple H still managed WWE’s creative process. However, recent buzz in the wrestling world suggests that McMahon is now working remotely and making last-minute adjustments to WWE programming.

This news raised concerns among wrestling fans who had become accustomed to Triple H overseeing the product. While Triple H’s booking isn’t flawless and he’s faced criticism for neglecting the women’s division, many see him as a substantial improvement over McMahon in leading WWE’s creative efforts.

Despite not being present at the Virginia arena, McMahon made “significant” last-minute changes to Monday’s Raw. The show didn’t have much advertised in advance. The only confirmed events were the Ripley-Rodriguez match, Gunther’s celebration as the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion, and a Cody Rhodes segment.

According to fans, this is a marked improvement from past years. Previously, McMahon’s constant changes led to advertised matches not happening on Raw or SmackDown. Hopefully, this marks an era of McMahon sticking to his commitments.
