By now, everyone is aware of O’Shea Jackson Jr.’s love for professional wrestling. The son of Ice Cube is very active on Twitter, often sharing his thoughts on all things wrestling. In a recent tweet, he revealed the name of who, according to him, should be the number one contender to face Cody Rhodes for the Universal Championship.

And it is a surprising take, to say the least. According to Jackson, the first wrestler to face Rhodes should be Baron Corbin. But why? Let’s find out.

Last year, Baron Corbin was removed from WWE’s main roster because of a lack of direction that plagued his character. He was then sent to NXT, where he began working with Shawn Michaels and his creative team. Since then, Corbin has found stability and developed a solid character. So many can expect him to return to the main roster soon. But according to Jackson Jr., Baron Corbin is ready for a title shot already. As he wrote on Twitter, “The number one contender for the universal title. Should be the last person who defeated Roman Reigns in a singles match before Cody. The number one contender for the universal title should be. MY DAWG @BaronCorbinWWE!!!”

It is worth noting that Baron Corbin is enjoying one of the most fruitful stages of his WWE career. In this second run in NXT, he has established himself as an imposing wrestler, and, in addition, he has managed to become a tag team champion with Bron Breakker, establishing himself as a dominant and unbeatable foe. So much so that he and Breakker are ruling NXT’s tag division.

A few days ago, Axiom and Nathan Frazer defeated LWO (Cruz Del Toro and Joaquin Wilde) and The OC (Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows) in a 3-way match to earn a shot at the NXT Tag Team Championship. The match against Bron Breakker and Baron Corbin took place at Stand and Deliver and had Corbin and Breakker as winners and therefore still champions.

The match began with Baron Corbin and Bron Breakker dominating Axiom. Nathan Frazer then sprang into action to help his partner and get his opponents out of the ring. Later on, the Spaniard hit a combination of Huracarrana and Powerbomb, while Breakker did the same for a combination of finishers. The match seemed to be over when Frazer landed a Phoenix Splash on Corbin until Breakker came to make the save. Finally, Corbin got the win for his team with an End of Days.

With this victory, Bron Breakker and Baron Corbin’s reign with the NXT Tag Team Championships adds to their second successful defense in 56 days of reign. A reign that began after they won the titles in a weekly episode of the development brand after beating The Family (Channing Lorenzo and Tony D’Angelo). It’s not hard to visualize how Corbin could propel himself into the title scene with these exhilarating displays. However, it’s hard to imagine an organic way through which the NXT star could contend for the top championship in WWE. Nevertheless, what do you make of Ice Cube’s son’s thoughts on Cody Rhodes’ first challenger? Let us know in the comments section below.
