Vince McMahon has earned his reputation as a hard taskmaster. He may not be involved in the creative now, but he was a huge part of it back in the day. There have been numerous instances of McMahon having strong words with talent backstage. A former 24/7 champion recently shared how he got the former boss angry.

McMahon’s propensity to control every minute detail has been well documented. He always ensured that anything happening in the WWE went through him. Hence, a wrestler cutting his hair without informing him would have definitely not sat well with him. Turns out that was exactly the case.

Heath Slater, a former WWE superstar, once showed up unannounced after chopping his hair short. He recently revealed at the Wrestling Shoot Interviews what was McMahon’s reaction. The former tag team champion said, I just straight-up told him. ‘Vince, I was done with the long hair. I said I had it for years. I said It ran its course. Needless to say, Slater escaped the tough predicament by the skin of his teeth. McMahon’s controlling attitude could have meant a much harsher punishment. As the Stamford-based promotion’s previous head generally makes sure that people rubbing him the wrong way learned their lessons.

Slater’s WWE career always bears the question, what could have been?

Slater has always been a superstar destined for great success but fell way short of his potential. He spent a large amount of time on the WWE main roster. During this Slater was a part of the Nexus, the infamous 3MB, and a tag team gold-winning alliance with Rhyno. Before being released by the company in April 2020. The former WWE superstar signed for Impact wrestling and appears there as Heath. He can also be seen in the independent circuit sporiadically.

McMahon’s time at the top of WWE seemed over last year. A bunch of hush money allegations against him meant that he was forced to retire from all his positions with the company. But the former chairman made a shock return to the board earlier this year. Not only that, he was even elected the president of the board.

Heath Slater was not involved in any major storylines back then, but his decision to chop off his air still irked Vince McMahon. This goes to show what level of influence he had on the locker room back then. This is in stark contrast to the much freer atmosphere under Triple H. Hearing Slater’s ordeal, current WWE superstars would be hoping that it stays this way.

What do you think about Vince McMahon’s controlling behavior towards the talents previously?
