For the uninformed, John Cena has stated that his social media is for fun. While the G.O.A.T. posts WWE-related images, with no captions or context, fans can speculate to their heart’s desire. This is exactly what fans did once Cena made his recent post regarding Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. The speculation train moved full steam ahead after their recent encounter at WrestleMania XL. Could either of the Hollywood stars be returning for a thrice-in-a-lifetime moment?

Cena and The Rock met face to face at Mania XL when the leader of the Cenation came out to aid Cody Rhodes. The last time the two squared off was 11 years ago at Mania 29.

The Rock is currently away from the WWE to fulfill his Hollywood schedule. Projects like Moana 2, Moana the live-action remake, and The Smashing Machine will keep Johnson busy. The same goes for Cena, who is filming Heads of State. Despite no build-up by the WWE, the 16-time champion’s most recent Instagram post, a picture of a brow-raised Johnson, has fans speculating.

Many have said that this could be a hint at the two facing off at SummerSlam. Reports did suggest The Final Boss could return at the biggest party of the summer. However, that would be to continue his feud with Cody Rhodes for the WWE Universal title. The Rock left The American Nightmare with an ambiguous gift before departing from the WWE. With Roman Reigns out of the picture and The Bloodline taking a new form, there could be something cooking. Fans immediately flocked to the comments section to proclaim their ideas and desires. Nevertheless, John Cena’s recent Instagram post could be attributed to a real-life reason instead of a kayfabe one.

Fans froth at the mouth for John Cena-Dwayne Johnson match but Instagram post could be about The Rock’s birthday

“John Cena vs The Rock Summerslam 2024 here we go ?” was the comment that started it all. Fans immediately realized that Dwayne Johnson did one-up John Cena at Mania XL. This led to the “Thrice In A Lifetime” and “Rock vs Cena III?! I am in! (I hope),” comments. However, many failed to realize that May 2nd is Johnson’s birthday.

While the WWE has pitted these titans against each other in two blockbuster matches, those were in the PG era of the WWE. Under Triple H’s stead, the Stamford-based promotion has inculcated a broader and less restrictive approach to storytelling. After The Final Boss’s colorful verbal onslaught of Rhodes, fans do not mind seeing the two greatest on the mics have at it again. With no restriction on language, this could be a slice of the Attitude era the WWE Universe craves.

“I can see the rock with John Cena 🗿🗿” and “WrestleMania 41 loading…” It did give a give a better hint that the two could be working on a rematch set for next year. The two are still massive draws in the WWE despite being part-timers. “john cena gonna come to backlash cuz currently he is in France,” did point out that the former WWE champion could be showing up at the upcoming PLE to further his agenda in the promotion. What do you think? Was it a birthday wish or a foreshadowing?
