“The Finish Changed”- The Undertaker Opens Up on the Biggest Loss of his WWE Career

One of the most significant days in WWE history was the day the Undertaker’s Streak ended. At WrestleMania 30, Brock Lesnar nailed a concussed Undertaker with three F5s to cement his place in WWE history. During Stone Cold Steve Austin’s Broken Skulls podcast, Taker revealed the plans for WrestleMania 30.

Undertaker opened up about the end of the Streak

“When I got to the building that day, at that point I was still going over. The finish changed during the course for the day. And I knew, I was sitting in my dressing room, I’m all by myself just trying to go through my head of what I want to get done, you know, what I’m trying to get across. And I see Vince come in, and as soon as he walked through the door, I knew.”

Undertaker was under the impression that his Streak would extend to 22-0, but the plans were changed hours before the PPV began. Taker had no idea that the Streak was about to end, before Vince McMahon revealed the eventual finish of the match.

Taker and Lesnar were having a pretty good match, until the former suffered a concussion. This hampered the match quality quite a bit, as Lesnar had to carry Taker through the rest of the match.

Taker did not want Brock Lesnar to end the Streak

“I wanted to save it for somebody who needed it. If we were going to break it, I wanted to make sure it was for the right person. I personally didn’t think Brock needed it. Brock was made and beating me wasn’t going to elevate Brock that much more.”

Undertaker recently revealed that he wanted Roman Reigns to end his Streak. The Tribal Chief did face the Undertaker at WrestleMania. However, Taker’s ring rust and old age caught up to him, as the match could not live up to its expectations.

Undertaker would return at WrestleMania 31 to beat Bray Wyatt. He would resume his feud with Lesnar at SummerSlam and Hell in a Cell, where Lesnar walked out as the ultimate victor. Taker made sporadic appearances for WWE after his feud with Lesnar concluded.

At Survivor Series 2020, Undertaker announced his retirement from wrestling in a very emotional segment. Despite this, we cannot help but wonder how different WWE would be if Brock Lesnar had not broken the Streak at WrestleMania 30.
