It is no secret why Cody Rhodes left WWE. In June 2014, WWE introduced Rhodes as a new character in the promotion. Do you remember the character Rhodes played before his departure from WWE? Yes, it was Stardust. Paint in his face, tightly fitted black and gold bodysuit, and eccentric personality were the traits of his past on-screen character.
Within a year after he adopted the persona, he grew frustrated with it, and even the fans were not so fond of seeing him in the Stardust getup. He expressed his creative frustration and demanded a revamp of his gimmick, but in vain. He was so annoyed with his situation that he even almost punched a WWE writer after they disrespected him.
“They actually did the hand shun,” said Cody Rhodes

Rhodes’ documentary, American Nightmare: Becoming Cody Rhodes is out now and is available to stream on Peacock. In the documentary, he shared an anecdote about how he almost punched a WWE writer who disrespected him by ignoring his genuine plea to change his gimmick back in 2015.
He said, “I remember writing so many different emails like ‘reset me’. At one point when I went to talk to one of the writers, they ignored me. They actually did the hand shun, and they were typing on their laptop and I leaned in and looked, and the laptop was powered off.”

Just a few months after his father Dusty Rhodes‘ death (June 11), he lost to Stephen Amell and Neville in a tag team match alongside Wade Barrett at SummerSlam (August 23, 2015). He thought that WWE would put a full stop to his Stardust gimmick after it but nothing of such sort happen.
Therefore, he went to talk to the creative team, but one writer he talked to ignored him completely. He took his grievance to Triple H and expressed his desire to punch the writer, who ignored and disrespected him. ‘HHH’ advised him that if he really wants to change his situation, then he should actually do something about it.
