“This Is an Insult to Terry Funk”: WWE Heavily Slammed by Fans for Their ‘Absolutely Nothing’ Tribute to the Deceased Hall of Famer

The latest edition of SmackDown was dedicated to the careers of the recently departed wrestling legends Terry Funk and Bray Wyatt. Terry Funk died on 23rd August at  79 years old due to declining health. 

Funk, who is the pioneer of hardcore wrestling was an ECW original. Naturally, to honor his storied career, SmackDown saw a hardcore tag team match between The Brawling Brutes and The Street Profits. However, the fans were not impressed by the match. 

The hardcore match on SmackDown leaves the WWE Universe dissatisfied

The Street Profits locked horns against Brawling Brutes in a hardcore match. But the fans thought that the match left a lot to be desired as it was not close to any of the hardcore matches Funk had.

The fact that no weapons were introduced in the match aside from a table, did not sit well with the fans. Here are a few reactions from the WWE Universe.

Terry Funk defined what extreme wrestling was in his entire career.

Funk was instrumental in the success of hardcore-style wrestling. Fans are conspicuously unhappy with the match on SmackDown as it came nowhere close to being called “hardcore”.
