Professional wrestling is at its best when two legends meet each other in the biggest stages of all. These ‘dream matches’ are short in supply, which makes them all the more appealing to watch. While there are many dream matches, some may have gone under the radar. One such match was Jeff Hardy vs AJ Styles.

WWE has spent the last two or three decades making dream matches a possibility. The Rock vs Hulk Hogan, Triple H vs Sting, John Cena vs The Rock, The Undertaker vs John Cena, the list goes on.

Every one of these matches is widely remembered by any professional wrestling fan. Surprisingly enough, no one talks much about the dream match that TNA mustered all the way back in 2004.

AJ Styles, the then TNT X-Division Champion, was ready to face an unknown opponent, as per the stipulation that night on the Second Anniversary Show. While Styles expected someone from the TNA roster itself, he got a very unexpected opponent.

With a new them song and a redefined look, an excited Jeff Hardy entered, much to the roar of the fans. The roof in the area was blown off by the applause and cheers for this icon.

10 years after his WWE debut against Razor Ramon, Jeff Hardy would make a lot of dreams come true by stepping into the ring with an already legendary AJ Styles.

Jeff Hardy had never competed in a 5-sided ring before

Jeff Hardy hadn’t been in the ring for a while so his moves were a little rusty, but he quickly snapped out of it in a little more than a minute. Soon, “The Charismatic Enigma” was jumping around the way we know him.

This was Hardy’s first time competing in a 5-sided ring, but it didn’t seem to affect him at all. In fact, he even had Styles on the back-foot for the better part of the match.

Just when things were getting intense, the fight was interrupted by Kid Kash and Dallas! The bell was rung due to this interference and you can bet that there was no one more hated in the wrestling world than Kash and Dallas at that moment.

Dallas, now known as Lance Archer at AEW, began beating down AJ Styles with Kash while Hardy walked away. However, Hardy ran back to the ring with a chair in hand and smacked Kid Kash in the face with it!

He tried to do the same to Dallas, but the tall man caught Hardy by the neck. Turning his back on the main target proved costly as Styles picked up the chair and hit it straight onto Dallas’ back.

The two ended up cooperating instead of fighting, but Hardy wasn’t at all impressed. On his first day, and return to wrestling, a dream match was interrupted in such a fashion. He and Styles were arguing a bit after this.

AJ Styles will meet Jeff Hardy once more next week on SmackDown

This match was sadly the closest Hardy would come to winning the X-Division Championship. He has never held this Championship in his entire career at TNA through various stints at the company.

AJ Styles will defend his Intercontinental Championship against Jeff Hardy in the next meeting of these two rivals. Will Hardy finally manage to notch a win against “The Phenomenal One”? We will soon find out.

The two Superstars met again in 2013 in a TNA match which Styles would win through submission. However, if we’re talking about each Superstar in their perfect forms, it would be their match in 2003, the result of which we sadly never got to see.
