Being one of the largest wrestling promotions of all time, WWE has gathered a huge fan base over time. Vince McMahon, the chairman of WWE although often gets credited for turning WWE into an international attraction, he is also infamous for his regressive mindset. Popular pro wrestling tag-team, Mark and Jay Briscoe was one of the greatest tag teams of all time. However, the world lost Jay Briscoe earlier this year, leaving his brother as a singles star.

They wrestled predominantly on the independent scene and for Ring of Honor, but never got a chance to perform in WWE. Recently during a podcast with Chris Jericho, Mark Briscoe revealed a shocking fact about WWE’s selection procedure.

Despite being exceptionally talented, WWE once rejected them around two decades ago because of their orthodox mindset.

Speaking on Chris Jericho’s podcast, Mark Briscoe revealed that the two brothers had a trial with WWE’s FCW, around 20 years ago. After the trial, they were given a promising update but were later rejected due to their looks.

The 38-year-old claimed that this rubbed him in the wrong, and he decided never to wrestle for WWE again.

What did WWE say to Mark and Jay Briscoe before rejecting them?

Wrestlers should be judged based on their skills and not looks. However, it did not happen with Mark and Jay Briscoe while they were trying out for WWE. The two brothers were rejected by John Laurinaitis stating they did not have the looks for WWE.

Speaking on Jericho’s podcast, Mark Briscoe revealed, “I guess it was a week or two after we got home, we were waiting to hear back. John Laurinaitis called and said, ‘We really liked your stuff, but I think we’re going to pass for right now. Let us know if you guys want another try.’ That kind of rubbed me the wrong way.”

He further claimed that Laurinaitis had told Jay Briscoe that they were not “cosmetically pleasing enough.” The 38-year-old said, “That’s cold man. I’m too ugly. If we have to be prim, pretty, and proper and maybe we get a job with WWE, that’s not what we’re looking for.”

This incident, unfortunately, ended any chance for Jay and Mark Briscoe to appear on WWE programming. They were taken aback by this reasoning and the brothers decided to never try for the Stamford-based company again.
