“We Got Threatened”: John Cena Once Paid Others’ Fine to Protect His Colleagues, Including Roman Reigns’ Cousins

John Cena is one of the most popular WWE stars in the modern era. The ‘Franchise Player’ became the face of the WWE, during his almost decade long run at the top of the industry. Apart from his exploits in the ring, he is also a humble, down-to-earth celebrity and is keen to help others. His work with Make-A-Wish foundation, is for all to see and his generosity extends to his fellow wrestlers as well. A former WWE star revealed how John Cena once paid a hefty fine on behalf of other wrestlers when WWE reprimanded them.

Matt Rehwoldt, who went by the name of Aiden English in WWE, talked about how an incident at a WWE house show, got him and other wrestlers in trouble. Fortunately for him and those involved, ‘The Leader of Cenation,’ came to their rescue.

John Cena paid fine for several WWE stars

During his time in the WWE, John Cena polarized the audience. His early years at the top saw people divided over their opinion of this new face of the company. However, gradually he turned the doubters into his fans.

He has granted a record number of wishes for Make-A-Wish Foundation and his goodwill extends to his WWE colleagues as well. Ex-WWE star, Rehwoldt, revealed on his YouTube channel, Drama King Matt, that he and other wrestlers almost got fired for an incident at a WWE event. During a non-televised event, Rehwoldt aka Aiden English, teamed up with Rusev, and Baron Corbin, against AJ Styles, and Roman Reigns’ cousins, The Usos.

During the match, The Usos kicked off a “super kick party.” The Usos super kicked everyone in their sights and this was, of course, off script. Toward the end, even the referee joined in and delivered Super Kicks of his own after the fans started “referee!” chants.

Rehwoldt said that WWE officials reprimanded them, backstage for their antics. He detailed,“We get backstage and we get chewed a new one. Vince McMahon wasn’t there, Triple H wasn’t there, but the producers, the TR [Talent Relations] people. ‘That’s not how you do it. You buried yourselves out there, you buried the business, you made us look like… all this and that, people are not gonna like this.”

Moreover, he added that WWE fined them a substantial amount. The former NXT tag team champion said, “We got threatened with release, gigantic fines… 10 thousand, 20 thousand dollar fines. All this stuff.”

After he posted the video on Twitter, Rehwoldt surprisingly revealed, that the 16-time WWE Champion, John Cena, paid all of their fines of his own accord. According to Rehwoldt in the video, WWE fined each of them $10000-20000, hence the total lands in around a sum of $100,000

It is pertinent to note that non-televised matches are popular for having light hearted moments. But this time, these wrestlers faced the brunt of the management for going off the line.

Cena’s gesture would’ve surely gone down well with fellow wrestlers knowing that someone like him had their back. John Cena has done a lot of philanthropic work and this incident further highlights his generous nature. Gestures like these are the reason why John Cena is one of the beloved WWE superstars of all time.
