The name ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin instantly brings up images of hardcore matches and brutal beatdowns to any wrestling fan’s mind. The WWE Legend showed utter domination over his opponents in the ring. It is no surprise then that this great wrestling icon found it hard to accept the loss of another WWE icon – The Undertaker.

During an interview with the backbone of the modern WWE, the one-and-only Vince McMahon, Austin shared his reaction to the infamous moment when Brock Lesnar beat the Deadman’s undefeated Streak at WrestleMania XXX. Taker had not lost a single WrestleMania match until 2014, the year Brock Lesnar finally laid the streak to rest.

Steve Austin couldn’t believe that the Undertaker lost

Speaking to the Mac, Austin shared, ““I remember being down in New Orleans, number 30, and I was watching the match in a truck with Kevin Dunn. Beer in each hand, this was a match that I had to watch – got two badass competitors in the ring, Brock Lesnar and the Undertaker. I had to see the finish.”

Austin isn’t alone in this respect – the match between the two giants at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome was one of the most awaited events in WrestleMania that year, and for good reason.

The match itself was pretty one-sided. Brock Lesnar ruthlessly took out the Deadman and took him to Suplex City on a one-way ticket. Lesnar finally pinned the Phenom after three F-5s to claim the victory.

It was a shocking moment for fans all around the world and Austin said it best. He emphatically told McMahon, “All of a sudden, man, I’m watching that referee hit the three-count, after that third F5, whatever it’s called…I couldn’t believe my eyes! I was like a guy in the front row – his eyes got this big, I was that guy in the truck! I said, ‘Holy Smokes! What just happened?'”

Fans naturally wonder – why didn’t the one and only ‘3:16’ fight the ‘Beast Incarnate’? Surely, that would’ve been the matchup of the century! Fans may be surprised to know that such a bout almost happened, all the way back in 2002! Although a match between the two is deserving of the WrestleMania stage, it appears that WWE didn’t feel the same way.

After WrestleMania 18, WWE announced a match between Stone Cold Steve Austin and Brock Lesnar. However, the fight was scheduled to occur during a RAW King of the Ring tournament bout, and this did not please Austin. Because of the lack of hype leading up to the match, the Texas Rattlesnake refused to lose to Rookie Lesnar.
