With 28 more spots left, the fans are filled with anticipation as to who might fill the spots.

Most of them will be filled by existing superstars on the roster, but fans are always most excited for surprise returns. With that being said, a potential return might take place at the event as per a hint from Cody Rhodes’ close friend.

Former WWE star Matt Cardona (aka Zack Ryder) recently sat down for an interview with Chris Van Vliet. During their long conversation, the host of the show asked the guest if the fans would see him at the Royal Rumble next month. Cardona replied, “No! Maybe! I don’t know! Who knows?” He added, “Listen, I’m always ready, right? And I really believe that if number whatever and my music hit, whether it would be Matt Cardona or Zack Ryder, I do believe the place will go nuts. I honestly believe that. So, we will see. [I’m] always ready.”

While Cardona didn’t say yes straightforwardly, he also didn’t rule out returning to WWE like the last time. So the question still lingers. Will he return to the Stamford-based company or his journey in the independent wrestling territory?

Where did Cardona go after WWE?

WWE released Cardona in April 2020 as a part of COVID-19 budget cuts, thus ending his 15-year tenure with the company. After his release from the promotion, he joined the rival company AEW, where he played a short stint. He then jumped ship to Impact Wrestling, where he provided his services for around two years.

He then started doing more independent wrestling and joined DDT Pro-Wrestling and Major League Wrestling. Currently, he wrestles at Game Changer Wrestling, National Wrestling Alliance, and Impact Wrestling (2nd stint). He is happy with his run in the independent wrestling territories.

He even admitted that he is making more than he made in WWE. But WWE is still a bigger name in the wrestling business. Therefore, he may want to return given his hype has increased ten fold over the past few years. Do you think he will return at Royal Rumble in 2024? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
