“You Think You’re Hulk Hogan, Do Ya?”: Bret Hart Received Major Flak from WWE Hall of Famer for Being Ambitious

Bret Hart is a WWE Hall of Fame member and one of the sport’s most skilled and successful wrestlers. He was known as “The Excellence of Execution” because of his splendid wrestling style. “Hitman” was one of the most celebrated WWE legends who was at the peak in the WWE’s Attitude Era. He also became best known for the infamous Montreal Screwjob.

Along with The Hart Foundation and Jim Neidhart, he enjoyed tremendous success. Regardless of the fact that he became a legendary wrestler, he first faced criticism for his ambition. Hart, in his autobiography,Hitman: My Real Life in the Cartoon World of Wrestling”, shared an interesting anecdote where he faced criticism from WWE Hall of Fame Chief Jay Strongbow.

Why Did Bret Hart Face Criticism?

In his book, Hitman said that the WWF audience began to grow immediately after Vince McMahon announced the first WrestleMania event. While this was going on, several wrestlers and Hart went to JoJo to eat following a match at St. Louis.

Meanwhile, he briefly encountered Chief Jay Strongbow, who questioned Hitman about the plans WWE had for him. When Hart revealed what WWE is planning, Chief replied, “You believe that, do ya?”

Moreover, Hart replied, “It’d be nice if they gave me some kind of a push. If I ever got the same push as Hulk Hogan, they’d be chantin’ my name next week. It’s all about who they want to make and break.”

In his book, Hart mentioned, “Chief barked out, loud enough for the other wrestlers to hear, “So you think you’re Hulk Hogan, do ya? I can’t believe you! Hey, did you hear this? Young Hart here thinks he’s better than Hogan.” I tried to explain, but Chief wasn’t interested in listening.”

Notably, despite being first made fun of by the WWE Hall of Fame, Hart nonetheless went on to establish himself as one of the most popular wrestlers of all time.
