This Monday, the second night of the WWE Draft took place on RAW and contained surprise returns and blockbuster appearances. The red brand of WWE selected Braun Strowman for the draft. And minutes later, ‘The Monster of All Monsters’ made his return. The WWE had more surprises up their sleeves as Monday Night Raw also featured Patrick Mahomes. And since RAW was held in Kansas, the WWE expected an ear-shattering crowd pop. However, what followed was somewhat dull, to say the least.

WWE fails to elevate Patrick Mahomes’ appearance in Kansas; Tommy Dreamer explains why

Saving Jey Uso wasn’t the only thing Braun Strowman did on his return, as he came close to attacking Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes was in the crowd and gave his three Super Bowl championship rings that he earned with the Kansas City Chiefs to Logan Paul. This segment and special appearance should’ve made the fans go crazy. However, the guys at Busted Open Radio, consisting of Dave LaGreca and Tommy Dreamer, revealed how the crowd reaction was mild, to say the least. They also provided a reason for the uneventful response.

In their latest episode, Dreamer said, “When Mahomes stood up, so I was watching that on the monitor at the back, I couldn’t hear, cause they didn’t have the volume coming through the monitor, but I could still hear the live crowd. I was like, ‘Wow, that wasn’t that huge of a pop for you know Mahomes who is like God over there in Kansas City. And I watched the people around him on the screen, like not everybody was standing on their feet. So yeah, I just think it’s the hangover from the weekends, and it just kind of rolls into Monday nights.”

Despite the hometown hero not scoring big, Strowman’s return during the same segment became a huge hit. ‘The Monster of All Monsters’ had to leave WWE’s television programming due to a neck injury, which caused him to undergo fusion surgery on two vertebrae. As it was a rather complicated operation, this involved a long recovery time, which left him away from the ring for almost a year. And while the draft featured the return of a major face like Braun Strowman, it also featured new NXT talents getting a chance at the main roster.

A new age beckons as seven NXT stars receive a call-up to the main roster during the WWE 2024 Draft

Several superstars found their new homes among the options of RAW and SmackDown in this draft. This includes multiple names from NXT, who will begin their time on the main roster next week. In total, seven talents could kickstart their careers on the main roster.

The seven superstars in question are Dijak, Ilja Dragunov, Kiana James, Lyra Valkyria, Blair Davenport, Baron Corbin, and Carmelo Hayes.

While the red show will host former NXT champions Ilja Dragunov and Lyra Valkyria, the Friday show will feature returning Baron Corbin and another former top titleholder, Carmelo Hayes. Finally, Dijak received his off-camera transfer as part of the supplementary picks. What did you think of the draft? Do you think Patrick Mahomes’ lackluster segment provided a stale segment during Raw? Let us know in the comments.
