Not many athletes have the kind of impact Ronda Rousey did in combat sports. One of the pioneers of female MMA fighters, Rousey’s stature as a legend of the sport, is unquestionable. Rousey’s UFC run put women’s MMA on the map. Now that she has transitioned to WWE, she also continues to dominate there.

Although her WWE run has the fans divided, a lot of her peers and fans respect what she brings to the table and her contribution to combat sports.

Wrestling legend Diamond Dallas Page aka DDP recently talked about Rousey’s impact and compared her dominance to boxing icon Mike Tyson.

Ronda Rousey blazed the trail once she began her MMA career. She was the first woman to be signed by UFC and became the first-ever UFC Welterweight Champion soon after. She raked up win after win in dominant fashion, looking unstoppable. UFC even inducted her into the Hall of Fame in 2018. This made her the first female fighter to receive this accolade.

Her demeanor, tough attitude and an unbeaten UFC record saw her soar to new heights. Her fame helped UFC gain a worldwide following as well. We can argue that she was the most recognized fighter in the UFC during her the height of her popularity.

Diamond Dallas Page talked about the impact of the “Rowdy One” on a recent episode of DDP Snake Pit podcast. He praised the current WWE SmackDown Champion for her ability and said she reminded him of former boxing world champion Mike Tyson’s attitude.

DDP said, “When that girl is walking through the curtain, she’s a beast, and she was a beast in UFC. She’s a Mike Tyson, when she was in her groove and owning it, nobody could beat her. When she got to that spot when she did get beat, then it was time for her to come and do our stuff .”

He went on to say that Rousey will keep the title of the toughest woman on the planet due to her role in getting women’s MMA where it is today. Page added, “She had the run as the toughest woman on the planet, and she’s going to keep that title forever because the only reason there is women’s mixed martial arts is because of Ronda Rousey. She’s a trailblazer, what she did she went out there and she owned it.”

This is high praise from the former WCW veteran for Rousey, given what Tyson achieved in his career and the impact he had on the sport.

Mike Tyson was a true icon and even transcended the sport he represented. The same goes for Rousey, whose star power goes beyond her achievements in the ring. Indeed, “Iron” Mike and Rousey even closely share their respective nicknames. Mike Tyson went by the moniker “The Baddest Man on the Planet”, while fans know Ronda Rousey as “The Baddest Woman on the Planet”. It is safe to say both have lived up to their monikers more than once.

Rousey is still going strong in the WWE and continues to add further to her legacy. Before she hangs up her fighting gloves, she will go down as one of the greatest athletes of all time.
