The fight between the two next generation of consoles rages on with new games arriving almost every week. Following the release of the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5, both companies have revealed features that separate the two consoles. While one provides better expansion storage options, the other provides better exclusives for fans to experience.
Last month, PlayStation 5 title Arcadegeddon became the first game from the two consoles to have new AMD tech. However, the Xbox Series X isn’t that far behind as the console’s upcoming title will also implement it as well.

New Xbox Series X title Myst to use AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR)
Iconic video game title Myst will arrive as a remake on August 26. The title will be built from the ground up using Unreal Engine and it will release on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Game Pass. Along with that, the game will also implement AMD’s revolutionary technology to improve performance in the FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR).
The FSR is an open-source image quality toolkit provided by AMD for developers to optimize their titles. With this tech, developers can massively boost their game’s frame rate while also keeping the high resolution. They do this with a unique rendering technique that sharpens the image of a frame rendered in lower resolution using cutting-edge upscaling technology.

In a recent Xbox Wire blog post about Myst, Jeff Lanctot, an executive at developers Cyan talked about the game’s implementation of FSR. He stated that FSR improves performance by 75% on the Xbox Series X while having 4K resolution. Along with that, the Xbox Series S also runs this game at 1440p at 60 FPS. The performance increases massively with AMD’s new technology even though the visual quality decreases slightly. However, the difference is really subtle, and players might not even notice it while playing.

The FSR provides developers with an option to improve performance without sacrificing the visuals. Even with the drop in quality, most changes might not be visible unless players try to look for the differences. Other than that, weaker consoles like the Xbox Series S receive a massive advantage with this tech as it allows them to run games at the highest quality possible. Fans should expect to see more titles use FSR and play it on the Series S at 60 FPS and resolution of 1440p at the highest settings.
