The heavyweight division is about to become a three-headed monster. UFC President Dana White wanted the champ Stipe Miocic to defend his belt against Francis Ngannou. However, with Jones moving up and demanding a title shot, the dynamics have changed. Regardless, Ngannou is still adamant claiming he has a higher priority over Jones for a title shot.
When Jon Jones vacated the light heavyweight belt, it was pretty certain that he was looking to move up a weight class. Yesterday, Jones laid out his detailed plan to become a two-division UFC champ.

Stipe has just fought a tough five-round fight with Daniel Cormier. He will need to give sufficient time so that his body can recover. On the other hand, Jones has just started to gain weight for his heavyweight debut. The timeline of both Jones and Miocic being ready to fight looks similar.
Therefore, the long time light heavyweight champ suggested that it is ideal for him to fight Miocic.
However, this didn’t sit very well with Francis Ngannou. The Cameroonian juggernaut has been knocking people left and right in his recent terrifying run. Hence, it isn’t wrong on his part to demand a very deserving rematch with Miocic. Therefore, he took to Twitter to remind Jon Jones that he is next in line for a shot at heavyweight gold.
I thought I told you to sit down and wait your turn Jonny? Stipe can not avoid me any longer. #UNCROWNEDCHAMP

Why Stipe Miocic may prefer Jon Jones over Francis Ngannou
In situations like the current one, there is no objective way of determining who is more deserving of a title shot. Therefore, it often comes down to which fight can act as a more lucrative affair for the promotion.
While Dana White is leaning towards Ngannou, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him switch sides when Jones vs Miocic starts looking realistic. Jones is undoubtedly the greatest light heavyweight of all time. On the other hand, Stipe has just cemented his status as the consensus best heavyweight of the UFC. A fight between the two has a tremendous upside for both of them.

On the other hand, fighting the Cameroonian doesn’t bring with itself a lot of perks for Miocic. He has already defeated him in 2018, and the fight wasn’t even close. Ngannou has done everything right on his part lately. However, he will most likely fall prey to the circumstances that are against him currently.
