Botch or Not: AEW Referees Caught in 4K Holding a Ladder During Sammy Guevara vs Cody Rhodes

Sammy Guevara created history when he became the first-ever undisputed TNT champion of AEW this week on Beach Break. Both Cody Rhodes and Sammy Guevara put their title on the line in a brutal ladder match.

After a bunch of deadly moves involving a ladder, Guevara bested ‘The American Nightmare’ to become the undisputed TNT Champion. However, the fans noticed one small detail during all the high-risk actions.

Sammy Guevara delivered an RKO (Cutter) to Rhodes from the top of the ladder. What’s so unique about this? Guevara leaped from one ladder to another and twisted his body in mid-air to deliver the devastating move.

However, one odd thing during this move. There were a couple of referees in the ring holding Sammy and Cody’s respective ladders. So was it a botch or have AEW finally learned from their past, seeing their wrestlers injure themselves during some spots in a match?

How do you feel about referees holding the ladders during Sammy Guevara vs Cody Rhodes?

Now, we have witnessed some classic ladder matches not just in WWE but in other promotions like IMPACT Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling. However, the fans do not see a referee in a ring unless there’s a planned referee bump.

Eventually, the fans on the internet noticed this minor detail of referees holding the ladders. Eventually, the move pulled off by Sammy and Cody was a crazy one and we take nothing away from those two wrestlers.

However, seeing a referee in a gimmick match turned off some fans on the internet. So, it kind of looked like a botch on AEW’s production part.

In the past, AEW has managed to shut the mouths of their haters and has already set the bar of action and risk-taking so high in the company that seeing two referees being in a ring when not required does not bode well for the ‘high-risk’ factor of these gimmick matches.
