All Injuries Serena Williams Suffered During her Career so Far

Serena Williams has had a lot of success during her career. Having played her first professional tournament in 1995, Serena has committed 25 years of her life to the sport. The 23-time Grand Slam champion has adapted her game from time-to-time and proves repeatedly why she is one of the best players in the world.
However, the journey has not been easy for Williams. She has dealt with injuries along the course, which at times have forced her to remain away from the tour.
2004-2006: Serena Williams struggled with knee injuries

Serena suffered a ton of injuries on her knee during these years (2004-2006). In 2004, she didn’t play until Miami, due to an injury on her left knee which kept her out of the game till Wimbledon in 2003.
She said, “I knew that it really hurt but I was hoping it would go away, I actually did it just before the anniversary of my surgery. Maybe that’s bad memories. But I’m sure it’s going to be okay.”

In 2005, the American began the season on a high note, winning in Melbourne. She suffered an ankle injury thereafter, forcing her to skip the French Open. It was the first time that she would finish the year out of the top 10.
2006 was a disaster for Serena. The continuous problem with her knee forced her to play only 4 tournaments that season, and as a result, she dropped out of the top 100.
2011: Pulmonary embolism
The former World No.1 began her 2011 season halfway through the course from the grass-court part of the season. Serena suffered from a hematoma and a pulmonary embolism.

2016: Shoulder Inflammation and Knee injury

At the beginning of 2016, Williams withdrew midway into the Hopman Cup. In her opening round match, Williams withdrew herself after losing the first set, citing a knee inflammation.
She has had a knee issue throughout her career. Later that year, she withdrew from the Rogers Cup due to shoulder inflammation.
2020: Achilles tendon forced Serena Williams to Call the season early

After her first-round win at Roland Garros this year, Serena pulled out for the rest of the season, stating that ‘she was struggling to walk’. She injured her Achilles tendon. The American had hurt herself during her semi-final loss at the US Open earlier.
The wait for her 24th grand slam continues. Serena surely has her sight set on the Australian Open at the beginning of 2021. We, as fans, certainly wish to see a fully fit Serena achieve further greatness in her already decorated career.
