Andrey Rublev Appeals for Working Together Amidst Wimbledon Row for Tennis’ Welfare

Andrey Rublev has been one of the many players who spoke against the decision to Ban Russian and Belarusian players. However, with the current decision from ATP and WTA to strip, Wimbledon of ranking points. There has been a lot spoken against it.
As removing the rankings will badly affect the players who performed well in the grass-court tournament. Speaking to the media, Rublev spoke about the same.

Andrey Rublev Stresses the Importance of Working Together
Andrey Rublev started his campaign at the French Open 2022 with a four-set victory against South Korea’s Kwon Soon-woo. Further, speaking to the media after victory, the Russian replied to a question regarding the decision from ATP on Wimbledon.
He gave examples of the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic, who have done a lot for making the game popular, and are no longer playing for points. The 24-year-old added that the big three have given a lot to the game of tennis and they also deserve to get back something from the game.

“If we are not going to work together, we just destroy it. What Roger, what Rafa, what Novak is doing, they did all these years. There are other players from other generations, and we have to respect this.” He said.
Also, he added that Wimbledon definitely broke the agreement they had with ATP. And what has resulted is not in the best interest of tennis. As it requires organizers, governing bodies, and players to work for each other.
“I will be honest. I mean, Wimbledon, they break the agreement between ATP. If something happens with the tournament, players need to defend it, and if something happens with the players, tournaments need to also to defend. Only working together, tennis can be much more success.” He added.

After winning the first-round game against Kwon Soon-woo, Rublev is all set to feature in his second-round game against Argentine Federico Delbonis who scored a 6-1, 7-6, 6-2 win over Frenchman Adrian Mannarino.
The Russian has 11 ATP titles in his career but is still searching for his first Grand Slam. Rublev has had a good 2022 where he won three ATP tour-level titles and defeated the likes of Novak Djokovic.
