Nick Kyrgios reacts to Andrey Rublev going berserk in breaking a racket and hurting himself in a match against the number 2, Carlos Alcaraz. The Wimbledon finalist of 2022 made his commentary debut on Wednesday during the group-stage match of the ATP Finals between Medvedev and Zverev. The 28YO Australian had only played 1 match in 2023. He’s currently nursing his knee and wrist injuries. Again, it’s the knee that has caught the attention of Kyrgios. But this time it’s Rublev’s bloodied knee that made the headlines. The 20-year-old Spaniard, Carlos Alcaraz didn’t have a debut he would have wanted at the ATP Finals. But the 2 times Grand Slam winner has now made a comeback from a three-match losing streak on Wednesday. Alcaraz defeated the 26-year-old Russian, Rublev by 7-5,6-2 in straight sets to boost his chance of advancing to the semis of the season-ending tournament. Rublev lost his temper multiple times during the match. The tennis world is now criticizing him for his self-harming behavior.

Looking at the immense success of Rublev & Alcaraz in recent years, surprisingly, this was their first meeting. The Spaniard got the better of the Russian in an encounter that lasted little more than an hour. Initially, both the players had started well in the match as they held their way to 5-5. But later on, Alcaraz changed his gears and pulled up a stunning victory over the number 5.

But things soon deteriorated in the opening game of the second set when Rublev slammed his racket onto the ground in frustration. Things got even worse when he started to hit his knee repeatedly with the racket after blazing a shot wide. Then he walked towards his chair and grabbed a towel to wipe out the blood off his knee before eventually calling the trainer for treatment.
