With his sheer brilliance and determination on the court, Andrey Rublev has amassed 14 singles titles on the ATP Tour. Even though Rublev has often been a fierce character on the court, off the court he is a very different person, according to Hall of Famer Tracy Austin’s recent assertions.

In the process of marking a number of triumphs, the Russian tennis star has also outclassed some of the biggest names while showcasing his intensity on the court. While shedding light on the 26-year-old player’s on and off-the-court demeanor, the American tennis veteran Tracy Austin recently opened up about how Rublev has a rare two-sided personality.

In a recent conversation with Tennis.com, the 2-time Grand Slam singles champion talked about how Andrey Rublev has often been in title contention wherever he participates in a tournament. Meanwhile, Tracy Austin asserted that the Russian tennis star, whose ‘intensity is sky-high’ on the court, is a totally different person off the court.

Outside of competitive matches, Austin described Rublev as a lighthearted, gregarious, and humorous person. The American tennis veteran also asserted how the ATP superstar also ‘greatly enjoys’ being the godfather of his compatriot and colleague, Daniil Medvedev’s daughter. Notably, Austin said, “He’s also the rare two-sided personality: the off-court Andrey is different than the on-court Rublev.”

On the court, Rublev’s fierce and intense demeanor has helped him win a number of titles on the tour, according to the American former world No. 1 player. Meanwhile, Austin also brought to light the ‘self-destructive’ side of the Russian player.

Apart from his incredible performances, Rublev previously caught the attention of the public owing to his violent outbursts during the Nitto ATP Finals. After missing a shot that resulted in a service break against Carlos Alcaraz, the 26-year-old became so enraged that he repeatedly smashed his racket on his own knees.

Rublev’s self-destructive outburst also resulted in his bloodied knee, as he later had to receive medical attention on the sidelines. Reacting to his violent on-court outbursts, Hall of Famer Tracy Austin said, “But sometimes, Rublev’s emotions get the best of him, and he has self-destructive outbursts.”
