Jarry began 2024 by reaching the quarterfinal of the Adelaide International and lost to Jiri Lehecka. Medvedev began 2024 with four gruelling five-set clashes in the Australian Open. First, it was against Emil Ruusuvuori in the first round, then against Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinal. The third five-set clash was an astonishing comeback against Alexander Zverev. He lost to Jannik Sinner in the final, who achieved a similar comeback against him.
He followed with a stint in Dubai, where he ran to the semifinal to lose to Ugo Humbert. He managed to run to the final of the Indian Wells, where he beat Grigor Dimitrov, Holger Rune and Tommy Paul in the final stages but lost to Alcaraz in the final. In Miami, Medvedev achieved a breadstick against Casper Norrie and a bagel against Dominik Koepfer and will now aim to end Jarry’s run.

Jarry and Medvedev have battled against each other once on the ATP Tour. Their match took place in the 2019 Barcelona Open, where Medvedev emerged as the victor. Although the Russian player won the match, Jarry would not go down without a fight. The clash ended with a score of 6-3, 6-4, which launched Meddy to the final.
Prediction: Meddy to end the hopes of Jarry
Medvedev and Jarry will face off for the second time in their careers. In this match, Medvedev has the surface edge over Jarry, who likes clay. The fourth-ranked Russian enjoys reasonably fast, low-bouncing conditions. Jarry has not had much success on hard courts throughout his career. However, given the size of the Chilean crowd, he must be enjoying Miami.

Jarry is playing well, but Medvedev, who loves to stand far behind the baseline, will return his serves and likely end his hopes of a deeper run.
