Daniil Medvedev has had an eventful season. This year, he reached the final of the US Open and played rather well in the Masters, especially in the hard-court season. He won the Miami Open, only dropping one set. Despite his disdain for clay, he also won the Italian Open after losing just one set.

However, since the US Open final, he has stumbled slightly, but his form going into the Vienna Open is nothing short of impressive. He beat Karen Khachanov and Grigor Dimitrov before the semifinal.

Stefanos Tsitsipas, on the other hand, had a great start to the year. Appearing in the final of the Australian Open set him up with a great momentum for the rest of the season. However, the Greek player did not have a good run in most tournaments. His best record in slams besides the Australian Open is a quarterfinal.

In the Masters, he has managed to reach the final stages thrice, with the semifinal in the Italian Open as his best record. His current form is also not anything to write home about.

Medvedev vs. Tsitsipas: Head-to-Head

Medvedev and Tsitsipas have had a great rivalry for a few years now. They have played against each other 12 times, with the Russian star in the lead. They first met in the 2018 Miami Open, which saw Medvedev win in three sets. After the bout, the two would have a heated exchange, setting a precedent for their future encounters.

After their first match, Medvedev would go on to win all of their matches until the round-robin match of the 2019 ATP Finals. In their sixth meeting, Tsitsipas won for the first time and later said that he would always remember this victory. They would then play each other in 2021 and find themselves as opponents in the final stages of slams.

The 2022 Australian Open semifinal would pit them against each other. Although Medvedev won, the match is remembered for another heated exchange between the two. Their next meeting would be in the 2022 Cincinnati Masters and would mark the third win of Tsitsipas over the Russian. It would then be followed by another match in the 2022 ATP Finals, which gave Tsitsipas his fourth win over Medvedev.

This year, they have met once in the Italian Open, a bout that was won by Medvedev. This victory marked his eighth win, and now, both stars are set to face each other in the Vienna Open semifinal.

Prediction: Medvedev to be the victor in straight sets

Tsitsipas had a great start to the year but hasn’t been able to keep his form going throughout the rest of the season. He has managed to reach the semifinal of the Vienna Open, but his form in the past few months has been mediocre at best. Medvedev, aside from his run in the Shanghai Masters, reached the final of two tournaments recently, giving him great momentum.
