Bjorn Borg Hails Dominic Thiem and Roger Federer for Creating a ‘Great Foundation’ for Laver Cup 2021

There is some great news for tennis fans as Dominic Thiem has confirmed his presence at the Laver Cup 2021. The tournament will take place at the TD Garden in Boston from September 24 to 26. Bjorn Borg, the captain of Team Europe, was thrilled after hearing the news and felt confident in his side. In a recent interview, he reiterated the importance of Thiem.
“Dom has had an incredible season, despite the unprecedented circumstances. He consistently performs at the top level and it was great to see him win his first Slam earlier in the year in New York,” said the delighted captain.
Borg believes that Thiem’s consistency will surely be an asset for Team Europe. He even said that he felt really good after the Austrian player won his first Grand Slam title recently.

In the three editions so far, Team Europe has defeated Team World on all occasions. Although Team World captain John McEnroe has not confirmed any player so far, it will be tough for him to win this time with the presence of Dominic Thiem and Roger Federer on the opposite team.

With both Thiem and Federer on his side, Borg is confident that Team Europe has already constructed a strong base. However, he also said that the competition would be tougher this time.

“With him and Roger confirmed I feel we’ve got a great foundation, but for sure we’ll need to be in top form as each year Team World get tougher and tougher and my great friend and rival John McEnroe will be hungrier than ever to win in front of a home crowd!” added the 64-year-old Borg.

Borg emphasized that with the home advantage in the next edition, Team World would also come strong. However, he stated that if his team performs the way they have in the previous two editions, they could surely win the Laver Cup in 2021 too.
