World No.5 Stefanos Tsitsipas battled past Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals of the French Open 2021. The Greek player survived a close five-set match and exhibited some phenomenal skills on the court. The final scoreline of the match was 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 4-6, 6-3.

Even though Alexander Zverev saved four match-points, he never looked comfortable in the fifth set of the match. As a result, Stefanos Tsitsipas managed to win the match and will play his first-ever Grand Slam final on Sunday. The Greek player couldn’t control himself after the victory and broke down into tears.

“All I can think of is my roots, where I came from. I came from a really small place outside of Athens. My dream was to play here. To play on the big stage at the French Open one day. I would never have thought that I could,” said an emotional Tsitsipas in the post-match interview.

It was surely a big moment for Tsitsipas as he trained himself really hard. It was his second semi-final match at the French Open and unlike, last year, he didn’t disappoint his fans this time. The World No.5 player didn’t even say much in the interview as he was completely in tears.

Tsitsipas definitely suffered an emotional breakdown after the match. It is a moment that he waited for years and now it finally came true for him. In the same interview, he also revealed that he has experienced quite a lot of emotional breakdowns in his career.

“I went through a lot of phases of emotional breakdowns,” added the Greek player.
