Nick Kyrgios’ mental health story

The current Australian Open doubles champion Nick Kyrgios was charged with an alleged assault on a former romantic partner in 2021. In the legal battle that ensued, Nick’s lawyers plead to the court by citing his mental fitness. The final hearing is on February 3rd, 2023. Before the final judgment, Nick will be tested for his mental fitness and if the scale tips to “guilty”, he could land on a two-year imprisonment.

Nick’s attorneys have had evidence of his mental treatment since 2015. Moreover, Nick himself took to posting about his mental health battles on Instagram this February. The player confessed to having suicidal thoughts, alienating himself from his loved ones, and substance abuse. Thus, tennis fans have taken Nick’s comment to heart as they feel he should have shown empathy toward Fernando Verdasco.
