‘He’s Not as Aggressive as I Am’ – Hubert Hurkacz Talks About His Comparison With Andy Murray

25-year-old Polish player Hubert Hurkacz had a tremendous 2021 with many accolades to his name. One of his biggest achievements was winning the Miami Open in 2021, along with two other titles. He also reached his first-ever Grand Slam semi-final at Wimbledon after beating Federer in the quarter-final.

Speaking of Wimbledon, people often compare him with 2-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray. Many think that the Polish player’s game is pretty similar to the British player. In an exclusive interview with Essentiallysports, he revealed his thoughts about the comparison with Murray.

In the recent interview, Hurkacz talked about many things regarding playing Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, and others. At the same time, he also shared his opinion about the comparison with 3-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray. According to him, he is much more aggressive than Murray in terms of his playing style.

“I heard this thing from the friends that they asked Andy about that. I’m still, obviously, he’s not as aggressive as I am. So, my style is a little bit different but you know, I mean, definitely, Andy is one of the greats and just also great, guy, great person. So, it’s nice to be compared to such a nice person,” Hurkacz said about being compared to Murray.

Undoubtedly, Murray is one of the legends of the sport, and Hurkacz’s respect towards the British player showed his true nature as a person.

Can Hurkacz become a Grand Slam champion in the future?

Currently ranked-10 in the ATP rankings, Hurkacz is slowly finding his feet on the tour. He has always been a talented and entertaining player but has never been able to show case his true potential in terms of winning trophies. Now that he won his first big title in Miami, he can focus on playing a potential Grand Slam final.

Certainly, he came close at the Wimbledon last year. Unfortunately, Hurkacz lost to Matteo Berrettini in the semi-finals. However, he will remember that tournament forever because he beat his tennis idol, Roger Federer.

Right now, his focus is on the Indian Wells and Miami. Later, he will surely try to improve his performance at the French Open from last year, where he lost in the first round.
