The tennis world went through an immense shock because of the calamity that recently struck Acapulco. After just a few days of experiencing the disaster, the city has started to regather the shattered pieces again. While the city has been a major part of the tennis tours, players like Rafael Nadal as well as the authorities have been presenting great support for the city to stand up strong again.

Tennis stars like Stefanos Tsitsipas recently came forward with an appeal to contribute to rebuilding Acapulco after a storm that caused massive destruction. Now that the city is reunited to stand again, an ATP 500 tour recently announced a secure spot for the Spaniard Rafael Nadal.

After a long break from the tennis tours due to a hip injury that led to surgery, tennis legend Rafael Nadal is now on a tough training schedule to be back. Acapulco, the city that has always had a heartfelt connection with the Spaniard, recently invited him to play. The Mexican Tennis Open recently announced that the tournament this year will be held in the resilient port of Acapulco. Along with the announcement, the tournament director, Alvaro Falla, said, “Acapulco is our home in good times and bad and we will celebrate the Open there; As for Rafa, if she wants to come, she will always have a space.”

While Falla assured that Acapulco is always “home” for tennis events and expressed that there will be a spot for Nadal if he accepts, the fans have doubled up their excitement levels for the upcoming tours.

Having been absent from the tours for an extended period, Nadal is set to make his comeback in the upcoming 2024 season, starting with the Brisbane event. With the ATP 500’s recent confirmation of Acapulco as the headquarters, Nadal’s return has been graced with another layer of anticipation from the fans.

While Acapulco has faced and is now conquering adversities, the city is now ready to host the most awaited tennis player as he recently confirmed his comeback after a long break. However, along with inviting Nadal, the list also gave out other names who will be participating in the tour.

Other players to grace the courts in Acapulco

Along with inviting Rafael Nadal after his comeback, the 2024 Acapulco 500 event will stand to be a star-studded affair! As the city stands again to bring back the excitement, it will showcase a strong face-off between nine of the best tennis players globally.

Led by the young tennis star Holger Rune, standing strong at the sixth spot in the world rankings, other players including the Greek sensation Stefanos Tsitsipas, the German powerhouse Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz, and the Norwegian talent Casper Ruud will also be joining in the competitive display.

Fans can also expect to witness Americans Tommy Paul and Frances Tiafoe, along with the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov and the promising Ben Shelton. With a lineup that already captivated the attention of fans, the Acapulco 500 event gave an amazing surprise to the tennis world which appreciates the city’s rebirth.
