Serbian tennis great Novak Djokovic has had a mixed year so far. While he successfully defended his Wimbledon title, the 35-year-old could not participate in the Australian Open and the US Open. In a year full of controversies for the legend, he has done reasonably well. Currently, the world number seven is featured in the Paris Masters. The defending champion was off to a great start and won the first match in straight sets.

Meanwhile, on the occasion of Halloween, a reporter suggested he has an upper hand in head-to-head records with most of the top players. Further, he asked if it was right to call him the monster of tennis. Here’s how the Serb replied.

Novak Djokovic won’t prefer being called the Monster of tennis

Novak Djokovic is one of the big three. The Serb sits second only after Rafael Nadal in the list of most Grand Slam titles. Over the years, he has faced some of the greatest tennis players in the world. The 35-year-old has a good record against most of them.

On the occasion of Halloween, citing his records, a reporter asked him if it was okay to call him the monster of tennis. Further, the Serb replied, “The monster? I don’t know the significance of that word in your language, but in mine is not really the best. I prefer not to be the Monster of Tennis.”

Djokovic’s qualification for ATP Finals creates controversy

Djokovic has had his fair share of controversies this year. However, it seems to be a never-ending process for the Serb. After his vaccination fiasco, there’s another controversy regarding his qualification for the ATP Finals.

Djokovic made it to the Finals on the back of his title run at the Wimbledon Championships 2022. Meanwhile, other top performers of the tournament, Cameron Norrie and Nick Kyrgios, didn’t get any advantage for their performance in the grass-court Grand Slam. Norrie, who lost to Djokovic in the semifinal of Wimbledon, raised his voice regarding the same.
