After the ‘Swiss Maestro’ decided to retire in 2022, the world and even his biggest rivals broke down into tears. Such is the effect of Federer on tennis, and it is unparalleled. However, after his retirement, Federer has taken quite some time to think about what he would want to do next. Recently, the news of Roger Federer joining Wimbledon’s commentators team went viral and fans cannot contain their happiness.
According to Federer’s ex-rival, he is one of a kind. For him to accept the position of a Wimbledon presenter, it is going to take something special. The tennis legend’s popularity has made him a welcome face in the game, but “calling matches eight hours a day” might not be his thing.

Roger Federer coming in with a “special” update soon? Sure looks like it!
Alex Corretja and Roger Federer met each other five times during their career and put on a wonderful show for the audience every time. So when Corretja speaks about Federer, he not just speaks as a spectator, but also as an inside person. Alex says, “Roger can do whatever he likes, he’s going to be welcome anywhere he goes.” And such is the charm of Federer. He goes on to say that Federer not just knows and loves tennis, but is a “classy guy” who would honor the world by remaining connected to the circuit post-retirement. “I think it will be awesome to have Federer involved in tennis…but the more he will be, the better for everyone.”
Corretja realizes what it would mean if Federer accepted to be a part of the team. He says he can picture Fed running a show, being the main man. “But I see him running a show, being the main one there and saying ‘Okay, I’m the man here’, guiding the whole thing…But it has to be something special and knowing Roger, for sure it’s going to be something special.”

Calling matches might not be the best fit for Federer
However, Corretja is a little skeptical of the role Roger will be taking up. Although discussions are in order now, just like most of us, Corretja too has got to thinking about the outcomes. He says, “I’m not so sure if he’s going to be sitting in the booth, maybe he might do it from time to time.”
Regarding Roger’s probable involvement, his fans have sure gone crazy. Twitter has already started filling up with his name on the headlines again!

For a player with as much caliber as Federer, Corretja points out that it would not be very fruitful to call matches for long hours, as he added, “You need to value Federer as what he is and he has to be something very unique because he is very unique.” He makes it clear that the tennis community needs to see their legend’s involvement as an opportunity and maximize its potential.
