In a recent interview, Nick Kyrgios talked about the major differences that he feels are there today as compared to what it was earlier. Reflecting on the same, he suggested that the game was slow-paced, but it has changed a lot. While suggesting that a big serve back then ranged somewhere around 200 kmph, an average serve that he himself did was 220 kmph.
Not only this, he also came ahead and suggested that Pete Sampras was the first one to fall prey to the young players after Lleyton Hewitt came ahead and destroyed his serve with fierce returns. “Bro Lleyton Hewitt destroyed Sampras one year at the U.S. Open. That was the first prototype of someone who could return serve,” said Kyrgios.

However, as soon as his comments went viral, fans slammed the Australian sensation. One fan came ahead and suggested that Hewitt defeated an out-of-prime Sampras while suggesting that it was always the other way around.
He’s as thick as he is ignorant. Hewitt beat a well past his prime Sampras that day. Pete was retired a year later. Peak Sampras destroys Hewitt. Sampras average first serve speed was 119mph. Below is the average of current players. Yeah, looks like the game has really moved on. https://t.co/FYL0EaBlUS pic.twitter.com/ymPb3EnX46

Soon after, another fan expressed his anger at the remarks made. He suggested that putting exceptional fast serves would not help him win 14 grand slams.
Dumb Kyrgios forgets that Sampras also had a great ground game and and-1 game. Serve alone can’t get you 14 slams lol.
He faced the 2nd greatest serve returner of all time in Agassi, and won most of the time.
Prime Sampras would give prime Novak fits, esp on 90s grass. https://t.co/97LL0hKIAt

This fan suggested that Nick has completely lost track of the evolution process.
Completely devoid of the concept of time and gradual progression of any sport.
If they were in this era their evolution journey and training would have been as of today’s time and yes they would eventually be just as good https://t.co/lFRdPhFtgs— S.S (@write2Swag) December 12, 2023
Another fan came in and suggested that the remarks made by the Australian were highly disrespectful.
Nah that’s crazy disrespectful. Djokovic is the best ever, he would cook everyone in any era but that doesnt mean Sampras and Agassi wouldnt dominate this era. Without the big 3, they would cook everyone https://t.co/wG08VDtpqM

Last but not least, this fan came in and suggested that Kyrgios was not completely wrong in his statements.
I’m not saying this is wrong, but the Novak dick riding is quite unnecessary here lol
everyone knows it’s the whole reason why Hurkacz makes it as far as he does anywhere, but there are only few who serve that well, it’s threatening for any player but it can be navigated through https://t.co/rU0pxYnCqZ— divyansh (@DivKaush2007) December 12, 2023

In the interview, Nick Kyrgios went ahead and made a huge claim about the current world number 1 Novak Djokovic. While claiming his supremacy in tennis, he went ahead to add that the Serbian would have clearly dominated the era.
“He made Sampras look like sh*t. And what would Djokovic do to someone like Sampras? It would be a cleanup. If Hewitt was doing it, Djokovic would destroy him. He would eat him alive,” suggested Nick Kyrgios.
