Kyrgios expressed skepticism about Sinner’s claims that the substance was accidentally ingested through a massage cream. He further suggested that the performance enhancement implications were serious and needed to be addressed more harshly.

The controversy began when Jannik Sinner tested positive for a banned substance named Clostebol, earlier in the year. Sinner and his legal team contended that the positive tests resulted from contamination by an anti-septic spray used by his physiotherapist, Giacomo Naldi. After a thorough investigation, the authorities cleared Sinner of any fault or negligence.

Soon after, several comments from fans and co-players poured in, followed by Sinner terminating the contracts of Naldi and his physical trainer, Umberto Ferrara, in response to the incident. Although the young Italian was not proven guilty, he faced backlash from tennis fans, including Kyrgios. Besides Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic seems to have a different approach to this.

Looking forward to his title defense at the US Open, the Serb pointed out the frustration among players due to the lack of transparency in Sinner’s case. He highlighted that the concerns of these players are valid, saying, “I understand the frustration of the players is there because of lack of consistency.”
