Australian maverick Nick Kyrgios is one of the most enthralling athletes in the tennis community. Living up to his expectations, he built a night to remember at the Australian Open third-round this year. However, he has now announced unfortunate news regarding his clay-court season.
The 25-year-old did not participate in any tournament after the suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic outbreak last year. Consequently, the Aussie star settled for a 6-3 win-loss record in 2020.

But the current World No. 57 felt much better resuming his career in home tournaments this year. Thus, he played the Australian Open lead-up event in Melbourne and eventually the Happy Slam itself. These are the only two tournaments he has participated in so far, obtaining a 4-2 win-loss record.
Since the clay-court swing is ready with some eminent tournaments, one might expect him to redeem his lost time. Conversely, Nick Kyrgios has decided to skip the entire clay-court season and aims to return to the grass-court season.

There is no apparent reason why the Aussie star has chosen to skip playing on the red dirt. Moreover, it would have been very exciting to see him play through the season.

Nick Kyrgios to miss the entire clay-court swing
Nick Kyrgios last played against Austrian World No.4 Dominic Thiem in an epic 5-setter encounter at the Australian Open 2021. In that match, the Australian dropped a two-set lead to end his campaign there. Even so, he brought out one of the loudest crowds in tennis history.
Following that, Nick also participated in the doubles’ tournament at the Happy Slam with friend and compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis. They lost to fourth-seeded Wesley Koolhof and Lukasz Kubot in the second round, 6-3, 6-4.

There is still hope that he might decide to play one of the tournaments on red dirt later on. But considering Nick, it seems very unlikely.
Undoubtedly, his affluent charm would be missing throughout the clay-court season. Hopefully, he would be geared up and ready to come back in a couple of months.
Currently, all top players are competing for the Monte-Carlo Masters title. Nick might return at Halle Open, which starts on June 14, 2021. He will then participate in the prestigious Wimbledon Championships 2021.
