Novak Djokovic Records Yet Another Feat at Davis Cup 2021, Inches Closer to Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal

Novak Djokovic looks unstoppable this year as he has achieved yet another milestone in 2021. World no.1 is currently representing his country, Serbia at Davis Cup 2021. Following his win against Dennis Novak, he has accomplished one more record. Djokovic has now registered 35 singles victories at the Davis Cup competition.

Moreover, he has now surpassed Janko Tipsarevic for most Davis Cup singles victory. The 34-years-old now records 35 singles victories against 7 losses since his debut in 2004.

Novak Djokovic sets another milestone

The 20-time Grand Slam winner, Djokovic secured an easy victory for Serbia over Dennis Novak at Davis Cup. Djokovic eased past the Austrian in straight sets with 6-3, 6-2. He has now booked 35 singles wins in the Davis Cup competition, the most by any player playing for Serbia. Janko Tipsarevic recorded 34 singles wins for Serbia.

Djokovic has been vocal about his passion for representing Serbia since the beginning of his professional career. Now that he has the most number of wins, the country would be proud of him. However, he’s still behind Roger Federer (40 wins) and Rafael Nadal (37 wins).

Serbia first competed in Davis Cup in 1995, when it was known as Yugoslavia. Serbia & Montenegro were renamed Yugoslavia in 2004 before becoming an independent country in 2007.

Djokovic’s words after winning

In the post-match interview, Djokovic stated, “It feels great to play for Serbia again. We are part of an individual sport, but I love to play for my country and I try to play when they need me. It has been a long year, but you always find extra motivation playing for your country.”

On the other hand, Dusan Lajovic edged past Gerald Melzer in an epic thriller 7-6(7-5), 3-6, 7-5. Team Serbia are now 1-0 up in their round-robin group of Davis Cup.

As both Serbian triumphed at their first matches, they look pretty confident at the competition. Novak Djokovic will be surely aiming to end his spectacular year with one more title under his belt.
