Equal pay for men and women has often been a debatable topic in the tennis community and the same has been acknowledged by a number of athletes and coaches. Patrick Mouratoglou, who has coached some of the greatest WTA players, recently used his platform to shed light on the issue of economic discrimination in the women’s circuit. Now, it appears that some ATP players have also voiced their concerns in addition to the female athletes. Joining the French tennis coach’s rant, the bad boy of tennis, Nick Kyrgios also opened up about his opinion on the issue of pay distribution for male tennis players.

Nick Kyrgios joins Patrick Mouratoglou to shed light on the economic discrimination

The legendary French tennis coach had often used his platform to raise his voice against some of the prevailing issues in the tennis realm. And this time, Patrick Mouratoglou brought to light the debatable topic of equal pay for women’s athletes. He uploaded a video clip of himself detailing the issue of equal pay rights.

The 52-year-old coach, who has trained the likes of Venus and Serena Williams, believes that the WTA players should be paid equally to the ATP players. However, that might be difficult as the men’s circuit generates much more amount in terms of business. Mouratoglou also said that the audience and the TV rights for men tennis players are more than for women. The merging of both the tennis authorities (WTA and the ATP) might be a feasible option for the pay discrimination issue according to Mouratoglou.

Taking note of his video clip, many from the tennis community swarmed to the comments section including the Aussie, Nick Kyrgios. The controversial tennis star expressed his own opinion on the matter by saying that pay distribution for ATP players is also “ridiculous.”

Others in the tennis community have also voiced their concerns about economic discrimination

From tennis legends like Venus and Serena Williams to the current generation of women players have used their platforms to address the issue of pay distribution. The WTA superstars, Jessica Pegula and Iga Swiatek previously sat down for an interview in which they detailed the issue of the pay gap in the sporting community.

They both believe that some changes have to be made to bring about equal prize money for women and men players during the tournaments.
