The Laver Cup was full of unexpected outcomes this season. Contrary to popular beliefs, Team World triumphed over five-time champion Team Europe, thanks to the heroics of Taylor Fritz, Alex de Minaur, Joao Fonseca, and other talented pros. Their post-victory celebrations were through the roof. However, another American tennis star wanted to celebrate with the winners but didn’t receive brotherly love.

In an episode of the Nothing Major podcast, ex-ATP pro Sam Querrey spilled the beans on his experience with the title-winning team in San Francisco. Talking to John Isner, Jack Sock, and Steve Johnson, Querrey revealed he was interviewing Team World on the bench after their 15-9 victory.

However, one sour incident involving some members of the Blue Army hurt his feelings. He opened up, “I was kind of like, because I had to stay that night cuz I missed my flight, I was waiting for the text from, maybe like (Taylor) Fritz, or (Alex) Michelsen, like, ‘Hey, we are going out.’ And I didn’t get it. I was like waiting up in my bed till like 11:00, and my feelings were kind of hurt.”

Although his sentiments were real, it wasn’t as if Querrey was seriously upset with Fritz and Michelsen. It was just that he was left waiting. Not to mention his compatriots Isner, Sock, and Johnson, who were all laughing while hearing about his experience. However, they tried to stay composed and serious. Isner asked him, “Wait, would you have gone?”

Querrey replied, “Yeah, I would have gone.” Seems like he was very much interested in having an outing with the title winners. Isner assumed that Querrey’s wife, Abby Dixon, knew about this incident. “She would have been like, ‘Bye Abby. I have to go the player party.'”

However, Querrey clarified, “No, Abby had already flew home earlier in the day. So it was just me. I don’t know. My feelings were hurt.” Being playful, Isner told him, “I am with you, Sam.”

Making his feelings known, Querrey once again concluded, “I sat in my room and had some Chinese dumpling soup by myself at 11:00.” But this isn’t the first time Querrey has shared such a bizarre, yet funny, experience from an event. Remember what happened to him at the French Open in June?

Querrey’s French Open experience with Taylor Fritz’s Laver Cup Captain

During the 2025 edition of the Roland Garros, TNT took the helm of the overall coverage. For this purpose, it had a massive cast of star-studded commentators. The likes of John McEnroe, Chris Evert, and Venus Williams were there. And guess what? Even Andre Agassi, who returned to the French Open after 26 years, was there alongside Sam Querrey. Responsible for providing expert comments and analyses of the matches, a lot happened inside the studio.

After the event, Querrey had a lot to share with his compatriots. During an episode of the Nothing Major podcast, he mentioned he was overall impressed with TNT’s “first-class treatment. He had a fun time sharing the desk with legends like Evert, Williams, and others. But he faced one huge challenge, especially when it came to being on the same desk as Agassi and McEnroe. It was the hardest part of his role. But why?

Querrey revealed, “If I was on the desk with Agassi and John McEnroe, it was hard for me if they said something sometimes, like for me, because of who they are and being Hall of Famers, for me to like chime in, ‘Andre, what are you talking about?’”

The ex-American pro added, “So it was hard to like jump in and poke fun, which naturally like, that’s what I wanted to do.” And of course, he was clearly overwhelmed with the two icons. “And you know you feel a little insecure on the desk with those guys.” However, he concluded his part saying, “All in all, it went good.”

Querrey has always had a thing or two to share from his experience at a popular tennis tournament. What do you have to say about his Laver Cup incident? Was it funny to you? Let us know in the comments below.
