After shining as a tennis legend and prospering as a successful businessman, Roger Federer has now donned a new hat as a fashion designer. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to most, though. The suave 20-time Grand Slam champion made tennis look stylish, donning Rolexes and all-black athletic looks with equal elan. If anybody were to take up the mantle of building a fashion line in tennis, Federer would be the top choice of most labels. Thankfully, his long-time sponsor seems to agree.

In collaboration with the Japanese casual wear company Uniqlo, the Swiss tennis legend has launched a clothing line under his own name.  While the collection is ready to be out by the end of this month, it was something that the Swiss Maestro wanted to do after trying his hand at various things. As he discussed his clothing line, the former tennis legend revealed the factor that stands behind the RF collection.

The nostalgic reason behind Roger Federer’s first clothing line

In an interview with GQ, the 20-time Grand Slam champion talked about his new collaboration with Jonathan Anderson for Uniqlo. The endlessly charming and effortlessly stylish tennis player talked about how, after entering the new chill post-retirement, his personal style became more casual. Rediscovering comfort in a classic laidback style, he wanted to share the same with others.

Along with that, the 41-year-old Swiss legend also revealed the reason why he went for a more casual collection, rather than something radically different. Federer said, “He thought that this would be a really cool touch. And when he showed me, I was like, ‘Okay, this brings me back to my teenage years. So let’s do that.’”

After his early fashion interest took root, he started attending runway shows and endorsing luxury fashion deals. He also highlighted how he loved the 90s track pants and enjoyed a run to his childhood while creating the doting collection.

However, the bespoke RF collection wasn’t the only recent business move that Federer made in the fashion industry. In fact, right before announcing his eponymous line, he collaborated with an eyewear brand.
