John McEnroe specifically acknowledged that Murray’s unwavering spirit can be directly attributed to the profound motivation he derives from his modern-day rival, Novak Djokovic. In his interview with the Guardian McEnroe shares that both players, Djokovic and Murray, are currently 36 years old. However, Djokovic has managed to maintain an exceptional level of performance despite the effects that naturally come with aging.

McEnroe is fascinated by the advancements in sports medicine that have allowed Djokovic to sustain his top-tier play. He finds it truly astonishing that Djokovic has successfully made a comeback. However, he also feels empathy for Murray’s arduous journey to regain his place among tennis’ elite. Murray’s path back to the pinnacle of the sport hasn’t been smooth sailing.

McEnroe shared, “So they do crazy things now with the medical people – I didn’t know how he is even playing in the first place.” The American tennis veteran also shared,  “So I’m amazed that he’s been able to get back and it’s been a long, hard road. I’m pulling for him to do something.”

In 2021, Djokovic and Murray had a delightful reunion during their practice session on the clay courts in Rome. The ATP released a video capturing the moment when their tennis ball unexpectedly depressurized and got squashed, surprising Djokovic.

Reflecting on the incident, Djokovic remarked that such an occurrence hadn’t happened in a while. While examining the deflated ball, Djokovic praised Murray’s powerful shots. The Nole had acknowledged that his remarkable hitting ability may have persisted despite his injury challenges. Djokovic humorously attributed the unusual ball mishap to practicing with Andy Murray.
