Apart from the Big 3, Stan Wawrinka has been one of the biggest players on the tennis circuit over the last two decades. The Swiss star, who is unfortunate to have competed in an era with such unbelievable talents, remains one of the most adored players on the ATP tour.
Wawrinka has won three Grand Slam titles, one each at the Australian Open, the French Open, and the US Open. He is known as a ‘big match player’, rising to the occasion when it mattered the most. Recently, he talked about his comeback from a long-injury hiatus.

Stan Wawrinka reveals why he wants to play after a long injury
The 36-year-old wants to make a comeback by the French Open, after being out for a major part of the last season due to injuries. He opened up on why he wants to be back on the tennis courts.
Wawrinka said, “People often ask me why I try to come back from injury and return, but it’s because tennis is a passion, I love the public. There are a lot who forget this when they turn professional—they take tennis too much like work. What motivates me and pushes me still is I tell myself I’m going to play—that I’m going to have fun.”

Recently, his former coach, Magnus Norman built up the hype for his comeback and said, “Stan the man is coming back. With 3 Grand Slam titles, he is one of the biggest players last decade behind Rafa, Roger, Novak, and Andy.”

Wawrinka’s absence from the tour

The former World No. 3 last played at the Qatar Open in March last year. Subsequently, he suffered a foot injury that has kept him out of action since. He underwent surgery and has been focused on his recovery and rehabilitation. His absence from tennis has severely affected his rankings. He has dropped to Number 171 on the ATP rankings chart.
Recently, the 3-time Grand Slam champion shared a glimpse of himself practicing after recovering from his injury.
