It seems like Dominic Thiem is finally back! The Austrian suffered a wrist injury at Mallorca Championships last June during his Round-of-16 clash against Adrian Mannarino. The injury has kept Thiem sidelined from the tour ever since. However, there might be some light at the end of the tunnel for Thiem as he announces his much-awaited comeback on the tour.

Dominic Thiem posted on his social media account about his return. In a full statement on his Instagram, he revealed that he will take part in a tournament in Marbella in Spain to mark his return to the tour. He joins another top player at the Andalucia Open, an ATP challenger event, making his comeback after a prolonged period away from the tour. Stan Wawrinka, who underwent two surgeries on his left foot last year, will be playing his first match since March last year.

Dominic Thiem is ‘ready to work’

This will be Dominic Thiem’s first match after last June when he suffered an injury to his right wrist. While Thiem attempted to make a comeback on various instances in the past few months, some sort of minor setbacks to his wrist have kept him away from the tour.

“I will be playing this upcoming week a tournament in Marbella, Spain. I want to start getting contact with the competition after all these months and I believe this is the right way to start.”, he wrote.

To step on a tennis court and compete is what I have been waiting for so long and as you know I had a lot of setbacks. I know this will be a slow process of getting back to the top-level, but I am ready to work hard and start humble,” his statement added.
