Currently, at the 2022 Canadian Bank Open, the 23-year-old indulged in a similar incident. Ending his grass season with a third-round loss to Kyrgios, Tsitsipas kicked off his Canadian Open campaign with a first-round clash against Brit, Jack Draper. While fans were enjoying the engaging clash, things turned ugly when the third-seeded Tsitsipas opted to repeat his Wimbledon act, seemingly trying to hit Draper.
Stefanos Tsitsipas hits a nearly missing shot at Draper
Kicking off the match, the players started on a high note. However, being in a dominant position, it was Draper who took an early lead in the set. While Tsitsipas made a decent try on coming back, a 3-1 trail clearly had a frustrating effect on the Greek.
Being on serve, Tsitsipas hit a wide serve on the left-handed Draper’s backhand. With it being a strong serve, Draper just went about returning the ball close to the net. The Greek had an open court to hit a clean smash on the high ball return. However, leaving the entire open court, the Greek opted to take on Draper, standing near the baseline of the alley of the deuce court.
