‘Chris Evert Knows a Thing or Two’- John McEnroe Makes a Bold Prediction About Coco Gauff

The young American tennis sensation, Coco Guaff, marked a terrific start to the year by claiming the ASB Classic tournament in New Zealand. However, results may not be a surprise for many, given her performance in the last season. Experts have touted the French Open finalist to do better, and even claim a Major! Recently, tennis legend John McEnroe in an interview, talked about flourishing possibilities for the World No.7. However, there are a few buts in realizing the possibility.

John McEnroe on Coco Gauff’s career trajectory

Coco Gauff broke into the scene when she defeated American tennis legend, Venus Williams, back in Wimbledon 2019. And now, a few years later, the teenager has raised the expectations of tennis fans many folds. Furthermore, the SuperBrat also believes in the potential of the young tennis sensation.

In a recent talk with EuroSport, McEnroe praised Gauff’s career trajectory till now, and predicted the future course of the World No. 7; including winning the Grand Slams. He said, “There is a huge upside that includes winning majors. It’s not just going to happen.” Certainly, big achievements require bigger commitments. And similarly, according to the 7-time Grand Slam champion, Gauff needs a few things to begin her Grand Slam streak.

He added, “There are certain things that need to take place in her head and in her game. Chris Evert knows a thing or two about winning majors, so perhaps they can carve out some time to work on some things. I think that’s a great idea.”

Well, it’s certainly a terrific idea. And more so, as the World No.7 marked the beginning of the season, with a 6-1,6-1 victory over an unseeded opponent to claim the season opener title in Auckland.

Coco Gauff claims ABS Classic in a lop-sided win

Tennis fans expected Gauff to rise to new heights this season. And the young American tennis sensation just cemented their hopes with this win. In the final of ABS in Auckland, New Zealand, Gauff dealt a crushing blow to Rebeka Masarova of Spain. What is more applaudable is the fact that the teenager didn’t even drop a set in the tournament.
