It is worth noting that Federer has been struggling with his knee for sometime. Last year, after losing in the quarter-finals of the Wimbledon Championships, he underwent knee surgery, which forced him out of the whole 2021 season. After a few workout posts, Federer gave hope to his fans about returning to the tour full time.
Unfortunately for the Swiss player, the knee is still bothering him a great deal. Hence, he had to take this drastic decision regarding his tennis career. Notably, his last professional match was against Hubert Hurkacz in the quarter-final of Wimbledon last year, which was sadly his last Grand Slam match as well.
