The debate over who holds the title of the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) in the world of tennis has long been a contentious topic among fans and experts alike. With the conclusion of the French Open 2023 and the resounding victory of Novak Djokovic, many were quick to anoint him as the undisputed GOAT. However, in a controversial piece published in The Guardian, Ben Bramble urged fans to think twice before bestowing such a title upon the Serbian tennis star.

Contrary to Ben’s article, Sascha Bajin, who is Serena Williams’s former hitting partner and also Naomi Osaka’s ex-coach, called him out for writing a ridiculous article.

Bramble’s argument centers around the idea that determining the GOAT based on a single tournament win, albeit an impressive one, fails to consider the entirety of a player’s career. Furthermore, he cautions against dismissing the accomplishments of other tennis legends such as Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, who have both held the GOAT title in the eyes of many fans at different points in their careers.

In The Guardian article, Bramble acknowledges Djokovic’s incredible achievements, but he also emphasizes that the GOAT title should not be treated as a fleeting accolade that can be easily transferred from one player to another. Instead, he calls for a more nuanced evaluation of each player’s career, taking into account factors such as consistency, longevity, and sportsmanship.

Bashing Ben’s article, Sascha tweeted about how he feels about the article. He added, “Ben Bramble I just read this article yesterday but I still can’t stop shaking my head. Wow is this bad…The reasoning and explanation don’t make any sense!!”. His direct attack on Ben’s article has caught the attention of a lot of tennis fans. Especially those who support Novak.

Novak’s fans highly disagree with Ben’s article too

Not just Sascha, but a lot of tennis fans came to the comment section of The Guardian article post on Twitter to support Novak Djokovic’s amazing win. One of the users commented, “While the adults are deciding who’s the Goat, kids and young adults on the tennis courts have no doubts about Djokovic, they are calling him ‘Tata Mata’ which stands for ‘The Father of All Checkmates”.
