In the United States of America, 19.1% of adults suffer from anxiety, and 31.1% of adults experience anxiety at some point in their lives. In the latest edition of his newsletter, Arnold’s Pump Club, the Austrian Oak shared how reading for six minutes can help you put your brain to rest. “The next time you can’t get your brain to slow down and too many thoughts are racing through your mind, grab a book and read a chapter,” says Arnie.

The Terminator mentioned that research found that just reading for six minutes can help you reduce 60% of stress. Reading helps you reduce stress by calming down your body, lowering your heart rate, and even helping you slow down your breaths. Arnie mentioned reading as “the ultimate chill pill.”

The Austrian Oak shared one more study that compared reading with doing yoga, and the results surprised everyone. The Governator explained, “Reading for 30 minutes lowered blood pressure, heart rate, and psychological distress just as much as 30 minutes of yoga.” Stress and anxiety often lead to stress eating and it affects your body on many levels. But the Austrian Oak has some tips to deal with stress.
Arnie shares a 100-year-old Russian method to control stress eating
In a previous edition of the Terminator’s newsletter, he shared a 100-year-old method discovered by the Russian physiologist Ivan Pavlov. The scientist used Pavlovian conditioning on the participants and made them practice in a few steps to reduce their stress. He made the participants practice a “6-minute relaxation technique that’s proven to reduce stress.“

While the participant’s stress was getting reduced, they ate some fruits. This method didn’t stop their craving but replaced it with a healthy alternative. Over time, it became the habit of each participant to go for a bite of fruit whenever they were in stressful situations. This experiment helped them shift to a healthy alternative to sugary and ultra-processed, harmful snacks.
