Bodybuilding is a sport that demands discipline, dedication, and an unwavering commitment, but throughout its history, the sport has been surrounded by numerous beliefs and stereotypes. Such beliefs sometimes get over the minds of even professional bodybuilders. 4x Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler is one of them, who also heard about similar things during his heydays. But the legendary bodybuilder once revealed that rather than succumbing to such stereotypes, he worked hard to break them

One widely held notion prevailing in the sport for a long time was the curse of coming as a runner-up. For years, bodybuilding enthusiasts and experts believed that the competitor who consistently placed second would never manage to clinch the ultimate prize. Bodybuilders like Flex Wheeler, Shawn Ray, and Kevin Levon are legendary examples of such a notion.

Cutler also had to go through the same, as despite his remarkable physique and relentless efforts, he fell short of defeating Coleman not once but four times. The curse of the runner-up seemed to have a tight grip on him, leaving many to question if he would ever overcome it. Cutler once opened up about the same notion in the Factz Podcast.

However, it was the dedication of the bodybuilder hailing from Massachusetts that finally brought an end to this long-standing debate. In 2006, after years of being haunted by the curse, the stage was set for a battle that would determine whether Cutler could finally break the curse and dethrone Ronnie Coleman.
