“I Look Like a Freak”: Despite Fast Food Junk in His Diet, Elite Bodybuilder Witnessed Bizarre Changes in His Body

It is common to see fitness freaks avoiding fast food junk such as Mc Donalds, thanks to its calorie-dense food. Further, there would be instances of working out for longer hours to burn the extra calories after a good meal at fast-food outlets. However, a bodybuilding icon defers common opinions on junk foods.

The 55-year-old bodybuilder, Dave Palumbo, recently opened up about his thoughts on a fast food diet. While answering a question in an #askDave session on his YouTube channel RxMuscle-The Truth in Bodybuilding, the former editor-in-chief didn’t find an issue with having fast food that might surprise fitness lovers.

If you were in your prime today like you were back in the day. Would you still go back to the old McDonald’s off-season protocol?” questioned Siddique Farooqi on the show. Palumbo accepted that a lot of people ask him the same question. He revealed that he thought of it and proceeded to give a snippet from his real life to give a greater perspective on the entire concept of fast food.

Dave Palumbo recently happened to eat a Double Quarter Pounder” and “friesat McDonald’s in a long time. So, he noticed a change while at the gym the next day. “I look like a freak, I was like veins everywhere, I felt like I put on two-three pounds of muscle and I actually gained weight on the scale,” he narrated.

So, he reasoned out the physical change to his metabolism. He explained that his metabolism would be fast when he consumes clean food and his metabolism slowed down after a high-calorie dense food.  He further admitted about McDonald’s, “I just grew better on that meal and it wasn’t like I gained any body fat from it, it wasn’t like my blood work got skewed from it.

Finally, he added, “So, I would yeah I would go back to Old Reliable McDonald’s,” answering the question. Though the elite bodybuilder himself follows a clean diet and regular gym routine, he suffered from various health problems.

The 55-year-old bodybuilder’s health issues

Palumbo had health problems that he bravely faced. To treat blockages he underwent open heart surgery. In 2021, he was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer.

You hear the word cancer and you think death. It’s not a death diagnosis. What it is, is you’ve got something in your body and you’ve got to address it,” he stated. He further went ahead with the thyroid gland removal procedure as a part of the treatment.
