IFBB champion Jay Cutler has been a noted figure in bodybuilding for quite some time now. His illustrious career is a testament to the depth of his knowledge of the domain. The four-time Mr. Olympia winner has seen the sphere change over the years. He recently sat with bodybuilding veteran Milos Sarcev and talked about how things have changed for bodybuilders.

A new episode rolled in on the Cutler Cast channel featuring Cutler himself, his manager Matt, and Sarcev as the guest star. The trio chatted about a range of topics, from the late athlete Gustavo Badell?s career to the current state of professional bodybuilding. Cutler shed some light on sponsorships in bodybuilding, drawing on his own experience.

Jay Cutler points out a striking difference

In the interview, the 49-year-old bodybuilder diverted the discussion toward the money-making potential of bodybuilding in the current times. He noted that even in the past, it was difficult for athletes to sustain themselves before making it big in the industry. Although the problem exists even today, it has only gotten more difficult.?

?so we talk about bonuses but unfortunately a lot of guys they don’t have that ability to get that you know right out of the gate and obviously we didn’t either and we struggled,? he said. Recalling his own experience, Cutler shared that only after he landed a fifty grand contract as a pro was he able to support himself.?

Athletes today, however, don?t get many sponsorships even after getting to a professional level in their career. The former athlete admitted, ?let’s be real like we were busted, no no, I was broke?I mean you talk about the Nationals I didn’t have a sponsor?there’s expenses right.? These days, “there?s no one standing around” to offer the pro athletes great sponsorships, as per the star athlete.

Interestingly, this is not the first time Cutler admitted to being broke during his early years as a bodybuilder.?

Jay Cutler was penniless when he reached the hub of bodybuilding

The star athlete once appeared in a podcast where he opened up about his journey from the bottom. Starting from his difficult childhood to his struggle with money, he did not miss any detail. An interesting story, an ad misprint on a newspaper drifted Cutler closer to his dreams. The athlete attended the USA 1993 event after he saw an ad in the Boston Globe newspaper that promised a round trip to California for only $99.

Intrigued, Cutler did not want to miss out on the opportunity despite having no money. Thus, he set out for his expedition with his girlfirend, penniless. ?I was broke. I was working just miscellaneous just doing like security and whatever else. I think I was actually working on a golf course doing maintenance at this point um because I was just trying to fund like my chicken breast yeah and whatever,? he revealed. Yet, with immense dedication and passion for the sport, all seemed to work out for him eventually.?
