Jay Cutler Admits How Arnold Schwarzenegger Motivated Him to Take Up Bodybuilding: “That Was When I Actually Made the Commitment”

Jay Cutler has just been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Arnold Classic 2024. The bodybuilding star thoroughly admitted how he got motivated by none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger himself and started going to the gym for bodybuilding. In his speech, while receiving the award, Cutler also remembered how July 3, 1991, when Terminator hit the theaters, and how it made him decide to want to be a bodybuilder.

The 50-year-old bodybuilder didn’t only put an end to the 8-year-long reign of Ronnie Coleman but had also won the 4 Mr. Olympia titles and 3 consecutive Arnold Classic champion titles himself. It is an extremely memorable day for the bodybuilding community as Jay Cutler receives this Lifetime Achievement award for his commitment to the betterment of the sport.

Cutler too shared his gratitude upon receiving the award and also shared a candid story of this Arnold movie made him decide that he too wanted to follow in the Austrian Oak’s footsteps.

The Terminator changed Jay Cutler’s life

Cutler mentioned in his speech how impressed he was to encounter Arnold Schwarzenegger’s physique on screen. Jay Cutler also talked about how as a teenager he would browse through bodybuilding books but none could motivate him as much as The Austrian Oak did through his movie. He remarked, “I’ve watched that, you know, I saw that physique on there, and I’ll tell you, I left that theater, and one month later, August 3, 1991, I joined the gym, my 18th birthday. And that was when I actually made the commitment.”

The bodybuilder further explained how he wanted to achieve his goals and the very commitments he made by choosing bodybuilding as a possible career. He stated that, unlike other kids, he was inspired to become a bodybuilder. Cutler confessed, “I want to fulfill a journey. They were, I’ve mentioned this before, many kids want to be lawyers, doctors, professional athletes. So he was a major inspiration or stepping point of that.”

After it was announced that Cutler would be receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024, Jay Cutler shared a photo of himself with Arnold Schwarzenegger from the venue of Arnold Classic Day 1. In the caption of his post, he had called The Austrian Oak as his idol. he stated, “I’m honored to be receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from you tomorrow night. Thank you for all you’ve done for me and what you do for the bodybuilding community.”
